Joseph Simon is an actor from Toronto, Ontario. He has acted at the MirvishTheatre and studied Drama Studies at the University of Toronto.
We caught with Joseph and had some questions:
As a child, did you want to be an actor, or did it fall into place through other activities?
I have always wanted to be an actor since the day I was born I guess.. I mean mostly it happened when I first watched Rocky.. It was either an actor or a boxer.. I fell in love with acting at a very early age.. I remember actually making up my speeches for the oscars and what I would wear etc., I guess I always had a very vivid imagination, but what child doesn’t?!
Who inspired you to follow your dream to pursue acting?
Well like I said on the above question it was mostly watching movies with my parents and also my drama club in an Art High School in Toronto Ontario.. (ESA)
What challenges have you faced in the entertainment industry? What has been your most rewarding experience? Challenges?! What are those?!
A challenge I believe is for people who give up easily, but that word does not live on my dictionary.. I do however have a speech impairment and being from Montreal and speaking six languages doesn’t help much with your speech. Many times words come out of my mouth that ain’t even English.. Like right now! Is “ain’t”even English?! My most rewarding experience has been convincing Melissa Di Marco to take a photo with me, while playing the role of the fan on “Out there with Melissa Di Marco” …. I know it was a role and it is a fake photo, but I came up with all that on the spot and first take.. I guess taking those improv courses and my theatre training helped here!! Whatever it was they all loved it.. (You can check out the scene on You tube or on re-runs of Melissa Di Marco show)
What is your favourite type of character to play?
I love doing comedy! I mean I look funny, I speak funny, mostly of what comes out of my mouth is a joke .. So I mean it is a given that Funny characters are a must for me, but I also love to play villains.. Arent the Heroes, and good guys overrated?! I mean I don’t like playing romantic lead roles..I leave those to the pretty boys!!
What market do you currently work in? Are there other areas you would like to work?
Well As an actor I am supposed to play any role and i mostly do.
What advice would you give to someone new trying to make it in the acting industry?
Be smart, do not give up, be yourself and never overact or try too hard!
What fuels your passion? What motivates you to help others be successful in their acting also?
I love seeing people succeed and I love being part of their success. If I help them now I know someday in the future they will help me achieve higher goals!!
What is something about you that most people would never guess?
My life is mostly an open book so anybody would know.. But what most people would not guess is “I am Glorious” (couldn’t resist to quote our Toronto wrestler in WWE Bobby Roode ( go Bobby Go) !! In a serious note though most people do not know that I used to be an amateur wrestler, and from that I broke my arm and have a long scar in my arm as a memory..
If you were to do it all over again, would you do things exactly the same? Do you have any regrets? Successes that make you proud?
If I would regret anything later I would never do it.. I mean why live life with regrets? Life is all about opportunities and our actions determine our destiny.. So yeah, I would probably do everything all over again.. I have had many successes in my life and too many to name here, but one is that This is the most i have thought in a while so thanks for the questions.. Hopefully the reader will laugh at most of them!! Oh did I say i love my wit!! Actually you should be the judge of that! Let’s quote Hamlet .. For now “Adieu Adieu remember me”
